Marcia M. Barraza De Paz is a seasoned Spanish Medical Interpreter, educator, and curriculum developer whose career spans hospitals, clinics, legal settings, and community health programs across the Phoenix, Arizona area and beyond.
Currently serving as Senior Medical Interpreter at Banner Estrella Medical Center, Marcia brings firsthand, real-world expertise directly into her teaching — ensuring her students learn not just the theory of medical interpreting, but what it truly looks and feels like at the highest professional level.
Her interpreting career spans a wide range of environments, including medical, legal, educational, and social service settings. She has worked extensively in IEP meetings, DDD programs, and critical care encounters, and serves as a professional translator for medical, legal, and lifestyle publications.
Passionate about elevating the standard of language access in healthcare, Marcia founded Spanish Medical Interpreting Training to provide bilingual professionals with a rigorous, practical, and career-ready education. She has taught at the community college level and developed online training programs that blend industry standards with hands-on, real-world learning scenarios.
Under her leadership, bilingual professionals across the region have gained the skills, confidence, and professional grounding to deliver life-changing language access in healthcare settings — honoring the dignity and rights of every Spanish-speaking patient they serve.
When she's not interpreting or teaching, Marcia celebrates her Mexican heritage and builds community through her culinary project, ¡A Comer! con Marcia, where food, culture, and connection come together.
